Tom Thomson, Untitled

9 Jun

Tom Thomson is famous for his paintings of the Canadian wilderness in the first decade or so of the 20th Century.   A very large number of his works are in the National Gallery of Canada, in Ottawa.  Thomson — to borrow from baseball — was always “swinging for the fence.”  He had a lot of heart.  Some of his paintings are more successful than others, but the best are stunning, like this one.  Don’t you love his loose brushwork?  And the color!  He’s a winner.
